Attempt any five questions from Part-B and carry 10 marks each.
PART-A (Compulsory) (Marks : 25)

Q.1 (a) what were the compulsions that led the British to impose
Permanent Settlement in 1793?
(b) Why in some parts of the country Ryatwari System was
continued?
(c) What is the difference between the two systems?
(d) State whether the tenancy laws during the British period contain
exploitation by Zamindars.
(e) Discuss the reason for abduction of Zamindari.

PART-B (Marks : 5 x 10 = 50)

(Attempty any five questions)

Q.2 State the provisions of the Indian Constitution for facilitating land
reforms. Refer to relevant cases.

Q.3 Trace the back ground for the Constitution (First Amendment) Act,
1951 inserting Articles 31A, 31B and the Ninth Schedule and
subsequent amendments in this regard.

Q.4 Explain the legal status of tenure holders in the new agrarian
structure. Do they own inheritable and alienable interest in the land
holding held by them?

Q.5 To what extent the tenure holders can induct tenants in a system
which insists upon personal cultivation?

Q.6 State the salient features of legislation imposing ceiling on agricultural
land holdings. Also state the policy to be followed in distributing the
ceiling surplus land.

Q.7 State the procedure to be followed in acquisition of land for public
purposes.

Q.8 State the grounds on which a final award of collector can be
challenged.

Q.9 Write short notes on any three of the following: -

(a) Payment of damages (S.5 of Land Acquisition Act)
(b) Power to take possession (S.16 of LA Act)
(c) Matters to be considered in determing compensation.
(d) Consolidation operation
