RAJKOT: In a major boost to Saurashtra University (SU), the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) on Wednesday re-accredited the university with A grade in its assessment.
NAAC is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country.
Earlier, SU was accredited with B grade but it has improved its quality of education and got re-accredited with A grade.
"This is a proud moment for us as we have achieved the highest ranking of the NAAC. This has also increased our responsibility to sustain the A grade in future,'' Mahendra Padaliya, SU vice-chancellor, told TOI.
"Our various departments are actively involved in research and resource mobilizations. This has worked out our advantage," Padaliya added.
SU will now be eligible for application for under stage of the assessment and if it passes, the university will get Rs 300 crore as grant from UGC.
