KOCHI: The ninth standard students who appeared for the Summative Assessment (SA-1) exams under the CBSE were stupefied after science questions were asked in their maths paper.

“We have been told that questions of at least 14 marks were asked from science subjects in the maths paper. Since the students were not prepared for that, they could not answer it. However, we have informed the Board about the fault and also told them that the students should be considered for the marks because it was not the students’ mistake,” Kerala CBSE Schools Managements Association president T P Ibrahim Khan said.

Since the CBSE prepares different set of questions for the same subject to be distributed to the schools as per the current system, not all schools had to face the issue.

Meanwhile, in another question paper opted by quite a number of CBSE schools in the city, many of the questions were not comprehensive. “All the questions which involved equations were confusing. Whenever there was a plus, minus or similar signs, codes like 1 and 2 were used. Finally, the maths teachers arrived and corrected our questions. Twenty three such questions had these kind of mistakes,” a student said.

Parents of the students said the CBSE should ensure that these kind of mistakes are avoided. “Since the marks will be assessed throughout the year and also for their tenth grade board exams, it will become an issue,” a parent said.

Officials said that the issue usually happens since the questions are set online.
