VADODARA: A faculty brainstorming session on the theme of 'Classroom to common man' was organized by M S University's faculty of social work recently.

The session held at Dr IG Patel seminar hall was chaired by MSU vice-chancellor professor Yogesh Singh while vice-chancellor of Dr B R Ambedkar University, Srikakulam professor H Lajpathi Raj was invited as the speaker.

Professor Raj deliberated on how universities can reach to aid the common man and how they can become 'people's university'.

The main purpose of this session was to highlight the concept of people's university — to facilitate the common man through availing expertise cultivated at universities.

The academician said revolution in education system is needed for reduction of pain and sorrows of common men and in order to do so, the universities should act as bridge to let the government schemes be better implemented and reach to the mass.

The roles of educators should be more dynamic, he said, adding that faculties and departments and its students should implement study and knowledge to serve the community and design the curriculum that can help them to fulfil the need of the community.

Citing few examples, he said that the biotechnology department at the university can take the blood group of each student and such data can be used in case of emergency while social work department can form self-help groups in a village which is facilitated by students of social work. Students of history department can facilitate and guide tourists and students from agriculture department can help farmers.
