The Mumbai University on Wednesday convened an urgent meeting of the Board of Examinations (BoE) after it came to light that several exams scheduled in October would be clashing with the Assembly elections and counting of votes days, namely on October 15 and October 19, respectively.

The university was forced to call the meeting because though it had prepared the exam time table in anticipation of the Assembly polls, it had not made arrangements for the extra day before the elections and the counting day.

A BoE member said that the meeting which lasted for more than three hours had the vice-chancellor, pro vice-chancellor and controller of examinations (CoE) present along with the deans of the three faculties.

Dr P.G. Jogdand, member of the BoE and dean of the arts faculty, said, “As exams had to be rescheduled for three days namely October 14, 15 and 19, the highest authorities of the university were present. However, as the exam rescheduling was clashing with other scheduled papers, a final decision on the same would be taken on September 19. CoE Dinesh Bhonde has been asked to prepare the new time table and place it before the BoE.”

Another member of the BoE said that the rescheduling could create a problem for students who had planned their holidays around Diwali.
