The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a prestigious national level entrance examination held annually for admission into various management programs of Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other top B-Schools across the country.

The IIM’s have announced major changes for CAT 2014 in terms of exam pattern, number of test days, duration of the exam, application process and admit card download.

CAT 2014 is going to be held in two sessions a day on November 16 and November 22, 2014 in computer based format. The entrance exam will be held in 99 cities comprising of 354 test centres across India, details of which will be furnished on the official website of CAT 2014. Registration for CAT 2014 will remain open till September 30, 2014. Admit Cards can be downloaded by the registered candidates from October 16, 2014 till the exam day. Unlike past years, the CAT 2014 Admit Card will not be sent to the candidates' email ids after the registration. The results will be declared in the third week of December 2014.

Key Changes in the CAT 2014 Exam pattern

Though IIM’s have changed the examination pattern for CAT 2014 there is no change in the syllabus. CAT 2014 will be computer based objective exam with multiple choice questions.

The exam consists of two sections- Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning with 50 questions in each section.

Candidates will have 170 minutes or 2 hours and 50 minutes to solve the entire paper of 200 questions.

The exam gives candidates the liberty to switch between the 2 sections at will. You have the flexibility to devote more time to the segment you are weaker in. Efficient use of this option can also give you time to review answers at the very end.

Candidates score 3 marks for each right answer. There is negative marking of 1 mark for questions answered incorrectly while there is 0 point for unanswered questions.

The result of the entrance exam will be declared by the third week of December 2014.
